Getting Started

Please enjoy our free interactive education and training lessons. You may have to download and install a Flash plug-in if your browser does not already have one. Also, you may have to maximize your browser since some of these lessons are 800x600. Make sure your speaker is turned on so you can hear the narration. When you are ready to begin, move your mouse over to the menus on the left and select a lesson.

We recommend starting at the beginning and continuing down the list until you are satisfied. Each lesson depends on knowledge gained from the previous lessons, so it is recommend that you cover all vi lessons if you have not used vi before. If you have and feel comfortable, you can probably skip them both.

Also, it is highly recommended that you set up a secure tunnel between your desktop machine and the machine you are configuring. For Windows, you can accomplish this using the plink.exe binary that you picked up in the first lesson, or if you have a command line SSH client, you can use its tunneling options.

For StarOffice, be sure to take the install defaults if you are running this inside of a Solaris Zone. There is no need to do a full 300MB install, since the software is already part of the standard Solaris 10 install.

After the web-based pkg-get lesson, you may want to go back into your /etc/passwd file and change the shell back to /bin/tcsh since the user environments that we set up in the User Environment lesson are only for CSH or SH.
